Ideas Worth Sharing

Every TEDxLaval speaker is coached for 12 weeks, by volunteers and free of charge.
Our team are volunteers and the coaching is free. At TEDx, speakers never pay for anything: not for coaching, not for production, not for tickets.
We don't write your talk. We help you find what you want to say and the best way to say it. The words remain yours.
One idea worth spreading, 18 minutes at most, with no promotion and no political or religious agenda, backed by verifiable facts.
From your first idea to the stage, in seven clear stages.
Your goal, your communicator colour and a first one-minute video to measure where you are starting from.
Turn your starting idea into a single idea, new and true, summed up in 15 words or fewer.
Find the lived story that carries the idea and build a timed outline that speaks to the whole room.
Write to be heard, test your script in front of a simulated audience, prepare your slides.
Rehearse, measure your progress, memorize without reciting and turn stage fright into energy.
The dress rehearsal, then your ritual for the big day.
Your verifiable digital badge, your before-and-after review and a kit to keep your talk alive.
A portal that guides you between meetings, based on TED techniques and the Chroma method: every audience listens in four different ways, and your talk has to speak to all four.
A link sent by email, no password needed. You move forward at your own pace, step by step.
Your communicator colour and your blind spot, in 12 questions.
The tool asks you the right questions to turn your starting idea into an idea that deserves a stage.
Four audience profiles react to your script, paragraph by paragraph.
Length, pace, pauses and filler words measured on every take. Your videos stay on your device.
A score out of 100 that shows your progress, from day 0 to the big day.
A clean slide plan and signposts to know your talk without reciting it.
The TEDxLaval Speaker digital badge, verifiable at any time.
On average, about 2 hours a week for 12 weeks, meetings included.
About 5 hours in total
We get to know each other, set your schedule and open your journey.
You pitch your idea in 90 seconds to the curation committee, who help you sharpen it.
A line-by-line read-through with your coach. Then it is time to work on your voice.
You give your talk in front of the other speakers in your cohort, who tell you what stayed with them.
Microphone, timer, slides and filming: the talk in real conditions, once, before the real thing.
About 1 to 2 hours a week
At your own pace, whenever suits you. Expect a little more during the two writing weeks, and a little less at the start.
Much of this time is simply preparing your talk: writing, rehearsing, choosing your story. You would do it anyway; the journey helps you do it better.
Students follow the same journey with their teacher as mentor. Meetings take place in class, at the school's pace.
For a talk filmed at the Studio, the dress rehearsal becomes a technical rehearsal just before filming.
The online journey is optional, and we recommend it. The 5 guidance meetings, however, are mandatory: they make sure every talk respects the TED format and that you walk on stage ready.
No, never. At TEDx, speakers pay for nothing: not for coaching, not for production, not for tickets. Our team are volunteers.
You do. Our tools and our team ask questions, read and give feedback. The words remain yours.
Write to us as soon as possible and we'll find another date together.
Your answers are used only for your coaching. Your rehearsal videos stay on your device, and you can ask for your data to be deleted at any time.
Submit it: the curation committee reads every application.
